BENVENUTI! BIENVENIDOS! WELCOME!!
Let me start by introducing myself - My name is Jocelyn Threatt and I am the Italian teacher at King Chavez Community High School. I am a San Diego native and my husband and I now live in South Park. Traveling has been a huge part of my life since I was a child, and I'm passionate about sharing the experience with my students.
King Chavez Community High School a public charter high school that is located in the heart of downtown San Diego and serves students from the Barrio Logan area. I began our Italian program in the Fall of 2011 and we are excited to begin, what will hopefully become, an annual language and culture exchange with Liceo Copernico in Bologna, Italy. I chose the city of Bologna to be our hub for several reasons. The first is because during University I had the privilege of studying at the University of Bologna and found the city to be student friendly, as well as rich in culture, art, and of course, history. Secondly, this city is a transportation hub, centrally located between Florence, Pisa, Verona, Venice, Milan, and several smaller, yet important cities. A third reason for choosing Bologna as the hub for our studies is it's incredible cuisine. Everyone knows that the way to a persons' heart is through their stomach, and I am excited for our students to sample the rich culinary traditions of the Emilia-Romagna region.
Contained in this website you will find all the trip details, bios of each student going, trip dates, our itinerary, a list of sponsors, a link to make a donation, and once the trip is underway we will be posting to our blog and adding pictures.
Please check back often to see how we are progressing. And if feel free to take a look at our Sister School:
Liceo Copernico - http://www.copernico.bo.it/
Thank you in advance for your time and generosity.
Sincerely,
Mrs Threatt, Mr. Fowler (CO-Leader), and the Bologna 2013 class
